Robotic Surgery

What Is Robotic Surgery?

Robotic surgery is a highly precise surgical technique that enables surgeons to perform complex procedures with the assistance of an advanced robotic system. This technology translates the surgeon’s movements into more precise, controlled, and stable actions than those achieved with conventional techniques.

The surgical instruments are attached to the robot’s arms and are controlled by the surgeon from a computerized console within the operating room, allowing for exceptional accuracy without direct manual contact with the patient.

How Is Robotic Surgery Performed?

Using the Da Vinci robotic system, the surgeon benefits from a magnified, three-dimensional view of the surgical field, making it easier to access complex anatomical areas.

The procedure is performed through small incisions, through which surgical instruments and a microcamera (endoscope) are inserted. The robot replicates the surgeon’s hand movements with greater precision, flexibility, and control, enabling safer and more efficient procedures.

How to Prepare for Robotic Surgery
  • Fasting for at least 8 hours before the procedure

  • Bowel preparation, if required for the specific surgery

  • Temporary discontinuation of anticoagulants, anti-inflammatory medications, vitamins, and supplements, as directed by your physician

The healthcare team will provide specific instructions based on your individual case.

Who Can Undergo This Procedure?

Robotic surgery has specific indications and may not be suitable for every patient. A specialized medical evaluation is essential to determine whether this approach is the most appropriate option, taking into account its potential benefits and risks.

Benefits
  • Lower risk of infection

  • Reduced blood loss during surgery

  • Less postoperative pain

  • Faster recovery and shorter hospital stays

  • Less visible scarring

  • Greater surgical precision
